Roads never travel

Travelling, displacement, tires, as a means of life.

I observe entrance doors to oriental cities with great admiration for the richness of their bas-relief ornamentations. Hand made, it shows a throbbing fragility, the temporal absurdity necessary for their completion and accidents which, allowed by the hand, reveal the human presence at the foundation of the majestic finale.

I cross garage stands displaying inner tubes on their façade, like tarmac-born trophies decorating the entrance.

From the road I observe.

I observe roads leading to…., all the while staying here.

I am on wheels, tires, transported air, on roads.

The tire becomes the contact point where ‘Travel’ and ‘Here’ intersect.

Keeping the imprint of the Here in the voyage, the static architectural ornament becoming imprinted on the passenger, the “crosser” or on his limbs.

The manual labour, meticulous, systematic, almost meditative, operated on inner tubes, gleaned along many trails - and that, incredibly, keep the breath of the worn out despite the openwork - becomes an ode to the road, to the places of the road, it becomes a precious object, a trophy for a place of passage.
